Kolkata Knight Riders are the two-time champions of IPL under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir but last year they let go Gambhir and made Dinesh Karthik the captain. Kolkata reached the playoffs last year where they lost to Sunrisers by 14 runs. This year, they tried to fill the gaps in their squad by purchasing Carlos Brathwaite and Lockie Ferguson.
