What is Powerplay in IPL and Why it’s Important?

In the T20 format, the first six overs of the batting teams’ innings are known as the powerplay and hold great prominence. A true cricket fan can never miss the first 6 overs as it is the showtime of tremendous batting from batsmen playing in sync and thrashing the bowling team.

However, if the batsmen are overwhelmed in the efforts of taking advantage of the powerplay, they can also risk the trump of the whole team by losing wickets in the first six overs. But, it’s worth taking the risk because if they score high runs without losing many wickets; it benefits the whole team which puts them ahead in the match.

Two Ways to Assure Triumph in the Crucial Powerplay Hour

In the shortest format, powerplays usually go only in two ways. Either the batting team bestows enormous efforts in the first six overs or the bowling team instead put-ups crucial bowling tricks hence keeping their opponents on the back foot. The first 6 overs can very much hold the power to determine the success and failure of the team if the openers or top-order batsmen struggle to score in the initial overs.

Indian Premier League has seen some exceptional batting displays by the batsmen of different teams. Many teams have scored at a run rate of more than 16 during many matches. Stunning isn’t it? Therefore, we brought the top highest powerplay score in IPL History to you.

How many Powerplays are in IPL?

In IPL, there is only one powerplay in one inning. The first six overs of the innings are powerplay in IPL. So both teams get one batting powerplay and one bowling powerplay in an IPL match.
