Lucknow Super Giants on Friday defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets after an all round show by Krunal Pandya. After this win, Lucknow is at the top of the IPL 2023 Points Table.
On a slow-moving surface that kept low, the Sunrisers were able to manage only 121/8 in 20 overs. The spinners were in charge, with Krunal Pandya leading the bowlers with 3/18. He quickly removed Anmolpreet Singh and Markram after getting Mayank Agarwal. On this slow surface, SRH found it difficult to get going as Tripathi and Washington Sundar adopted a more defensive stance. Amit Mishra, a stalwart of the IPL, made a triumphant return on this surface as he picked up two wickets while bowling out.
In the last over, Abdul Samad came out and hammered two sixes, but even those runs were not enough for the Sunrisers.
Apart from their batting, SRH had a poor day on the field as well. They had so less to save, and their fielding made it even worse. Sunrisers did have some early breakthroughs, but KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya made sure that they took the game home for LSG. Both the batsman formed a 65 run partnership which proved too much for the Sunrisers, and did the job for Lucknow.
With this win, LSG has now won two in two this season, whereas SRH has lost eight out of their last nine matches.
