Previously known as ICC World Twenty20, International Cricket Council (ICC) organizes an International Twenty20 cricket tournament, every two years. 2007 ICC World Cup Twenty20: India
2007 tournament plays a stagnant role in the T20 world cup history as it’s the birth of ICC 20 overs match. South Africa hosted the tournament and 12 teams participated for the trophy. India won the trophy by defeating Pakistan in the finals.
The tournament witnessed immense success as fans witnessed the world’s best cricketers playing in the new format. This is the same tournament wherein Yuvraj Singh famously hit Stuart Broad for six 6’s in one over in a 12-ball 50!
The finale was full of excitement and tension concurrently as the match went to the last over of the match with Pakistan requiring 13 runs to win and India 1 wicket.
2009 ICC World Cup Twenty20: Pakistan
England was the host for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and they were embarrassed in the opening game as they lost to the Netherlands in a final ball thriller. Another shock was Australia who failed to progress through to the Super 8s despite usually being so consistent in international tournaments.
Previous world champions India had a very disappointing World Twenty20 as they lost all their matches in the Super 8 stage.
Pakistan made it through to their second consecutive final which they won against Sri Lanka with eight balls to spare. Shahid Afridi scored 54* from his 40 balls, while Tillakaratne Dilshan finished as the player of the tournament with a total of 317 runs.
2010 ICC World Cup Twenty20: England
West Indies was the host of the third edition of ICC World Twenty20. England won the title of ICC World Cup 2010. It was a surprise for the fans and opposition teams as they win their first major-limited overs trophy.
India lost every match in the Super 8 stage, for the second tournament in a row. Australia worked hard to win the tournament along with Dirk Nannes, who took 14 wickets in the entire tournament. But, England was invincible and defeated Australia with 148 runs in the final. The Player of the tournament was Kevin Pietersen.

2012 ICC World Cup Twenty20: West Indies
The 2012 ICC world cup T20 included the same twelve teams that played in the 2010 edition along with Afghanistan and Ireland joining the ten full members. In the entire tournament, Shane Watson was the leading batsmen with a total run score of 249.
It was the same edition where Chris Gayle again proved everyone about his batting by striking 16 sixes, the most scored by any player so far. The trophy was won by the Windies for the first time by defeating defeat Sri Lanka in the final by 36 runs.
2014 ICC World Cup T20: Sri Lanka
The edition witnessed a major alteration of expanded teams. It was the first in history to feature 16 teams together with all ten full members and six associate members who needed to be qualified. This was the tournament in which countries like Nepal, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates made their debut.
It was also special as Bangladesh hosted its first World Cup and the fans witnessed major records broken, commendable performances, and massive surprises. Sri Lankan bowling group including Malinga, Mendis, and Mathews enthralled in every stadium throughout the tournament.
Furthermore, the Netherlands again stunned England by defeating them by 45 runs.
The final was fought between India and Sri Lanka in which Sri Lankans won the trophy with the major help of Kumar Sangakkara to a six-wicket victory.
2016 ICC World Cup Twenty20: West Indies
This tournament will be always remembered for its irreplaceable last over in the finale. India hosted the 2016 World Twenty20 and again the tournament constituted with 16 teams competing like last time.
The final was between England and Windies in which Windies won the trophy by carving their name in the T20 world cup history. The match was epic as both the teams were participating vigorously to name the title by becoming the first team to win more than one World T20 title.
Carlos Brathwaite smashed Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes in the last over and won the trophy for West Indies.

Despite the cold war between both the Asian countries, India vs Pakistan match has always been very exciting in all the tournaments. History of Women’s T20 World Cup
Similar to ICC Men’s T20 tournaments, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is also the two-yearly international competition for women’s Twenty20 International Cricket. Cricket’s governing body – International Cricket Council (ICC), organizes the event.
The first edition in the History of women’s T20 World Cup starts in 2009. England was the host for the first edition. In the initial three tournaments, there were only eight teams, but the number is continuously rising to ten from the 2014 edition and onwards.
Australia has won the tournament 5 times by making themselves invincible in the history of Women’s T20 World Cup. In 2020, the seventh edition of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was held in Australia from 21 February to 8 March 2020.
Melbourne Cricket Ground hosted the final on International Women’s Day. The host country won the title 5th time by defeating India by 85 runs. Even after being beaten by Australia in the finals, it was a huge achievement for the team India as it was the first team in the history of women’s T20 World Cup to qualify for the semi-finals, after owning three wins from their first three matches.

Known by fewer, the main aim of introducing the T20 Cricket world cup was to find an alternative to the Benson and Hedges Cup. Furthermore, ICC was looking for a tournament that was fast-paced especially for those fans who had problems with longer versions of the tournament.
Therefore, ECB Marketing Manager Stuart Robertson in England proposed the T20 World Cup that not only helped ICC to restore diminishing fans but also boosted the number of sponsors.
The first tournament was played in the year 2007, which was won by team India against Pakistan in South Africa. Since then, the tournament is played every two years with an exception that the ICC 50-Over World cup should not fall under the same year. West Indies are the present T20 World Cup holders, defeating England in the final of the T20 World Cup 2016 tournament and have won the tournament twice.

The T20 World Cup history goes back to the year 2002 when the Benson & Hedges Cup ended, and the ECB was seeking a one-day match competition in its place. Earlier known as ICC World Twenty20, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup took its international inception in 2007.

First-ever 20 Over Tournaments in T20 World Cup History
Fewer people know that the first official Twenty20 matches in the history of ICC T20 world cup were played on 13 June 2003 between the English counties.
The first tournament witnessed humongous success. In July 2004, the match held at Lord’s and played between Middlesex and Surrey lured a crowd of 27,509, the largest attendance for any county cricket game gathered ever after a one-day final since 1953.
