SkyShots Across the Park: Relive the Day when RCB Set the Highest Total ever in IPL History

rcb highest score in ipl

IPL is not just an ordinary T20 league, it is much more than that. It’s about emotions, gameplay, strategies, money, and of course controversies. The first-ever match of IPL was played back in 2008 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Brendon McCullum set the tone by smashing a blistering 158* runs in just 73 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and 13 sixes. Mind-boggling, isn’t it?

Well, RCB did a similar type of slaughter in 2013 against Pune Warriors at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Pune Warriors won the toss and decided to field first. They must’ve planned to restrict the hosts, but Chris Gayle had other plans. Gayle was accompanied by Legendary Dilshan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a great first over by giving only 3 runs.

Ishwar Pandey came to bowl the second over and Gayle fireworks began. He smashed him for consecutive boundaries before the rain interrupted the game. Soon, the weather improved, and players came out once again. Pandey’s over was not completed because of the rain and it cost him and his team 13 runs in the next 4 balls. Courtesy by Gayleeee!!!

  • Christopher Henry Gayle is one of the most destructive batsmen that cricket has ever witnessed. He earned himself the title of “The Universe Boss” because of his match-winning ability with exceptional power-hitting game. Well, coming back to the focal point, the next couple of overs were pretty decent from Pune Warriors. In the fifth over of the game, captain Aaron Finch gave the ball to Mitchell Marsh and that’s when Gayle announced himself for that day.
  • 6 6 4 . 6 6, this is how Gayle welcomed M. Marsh into his spell. Berserkkkkkkk! Gayle then attacked Ali Murtaza and smashed 2 sixes and a boundary in the seventh over of RCB’s innings. Runs were flowing and Finch had to think out of the box. So, he introduced himself on the attack. But but but, Dilshan played a major role here by taking a single on the very first ball.
  • Now, it was Pune’s skipper against The Universe Boss. Do you want to guess what happened? Well, Finch can certainly not forget this and so can’t the fans of Royal Challengers Bangalore. 6 6 4 6 6, this is exactly how Finch was welcomed by Gayle. 29 runs of an over and RCB’s scorecard was ticking like anything. Well, for the next few overs, Pune somehow managed to get hold of the Gayle storm as he managed to smash only one-six in the 9th, 12th, and 13th overs.
  • Finally, the partnership was broken when Luke Wright sent Dilshan back to the pavilion for 33 runs. Virat Kohli, the skipper of RCB then joined Chris Gayle in the middle and took a single on the very first ball of the 15th over. Ali Murtaza had to ball 5 balls to Gayle, and he was taking RCB to their highest score in the history of IPL.
  • 4 6 wd 6 4 6. Well, nothing surprising because Gayle was hitting the ball across all corners of the park for fun. The eyes were set on the scoreboard as the highest score by RCB, or any other team was about to be set. Ashok Dinda came to bowl the 17th over and Virat Kohli smacked the first ball through mid-wicket for a six. He was then run out by Dinda only on the very next delivery.
  • Then came out the G.O.A.T of IPL, Ab De Villiers. Call him Superman, call him Mr. 360, call him whatever you want because he has been one of the most talented cricketers that cricket will ever see. He took no time to settle in and smashed Dinda for a four and a six on his last 2 deliveries.
  • Bhuvi came to ball the next over and both Gayle and De Villiers fetched 15 runs from his over without hitting a six. Well, Mitch Marsh was already having a bad day because of Gayle, and it got worse when De Villiers took on him. He smashed a boundary and 2 consecutive sixes before getting caught at backward point. His 31 runs in just 8 balls with 3 sixes and 3 boundaries helped RCB to further damage the Pune Warriors.
  • Well, Dinda bowled a pretty decent last over, but it was overall the day for The Universe Boss to cherish and be proud of. Gayle remained unbeaten on 175 and took the Orange Cap from Virat Kohli. After his remarkable inning, he said, “I’m astonished myself. I think we’ve got a “good total.” All I asked for was a plain omelette and two cakes. Hopefully, I can run around now and take a few catches.
  • The target was also next to impossible, and no one came out to rescue Pune Warriors. They played their 20 overs but managed to score only 133 runs with the loss of 9 wickets. It wasn’t a surprise that Gayle came out to ball the final over and took 2 wickets too.

So, this is the story of RCB’s highest score in the history of IPL. You can also see the full detailed summary of the match by searching RCB highest score in IPL scorecard.
